What is a Registered Business Address?

A registered business address is the official address of an incorporated company. This address is on public display – meaning it is available for anyone to view, and in some cases, can be a different address to the company’s trading address. It is a legal requirement that all companies register their company address with Companies House. In line with Companies House, HMRC, and other government bodies will use your registered office address to deliver statutory letters and legal notices.

Why You May Want to Change Your Business Address

As mentioned above, your business address requires to be legally registered with Companies House, meaning it is available to be viewed by anyone. This means, that if you decide to run your business from home and you have registered your company using your home address, you risk unwanted strangers and cold callers turning up at your front door unannounced. This of course, may leave you and your family with some safety concerns and it would be appropriate to keep your home address off public records. On top of this, you could end up receiving tons of unwanted junk mail.

Of course, there may also be other reasons that you choose to change your business address. You may need to change your address due to a move in your physical location, or you may simply be after something a little more appealing and professional for your customers and clients. Fortunately, there’s an easy way to fix this and applying for a registered business with Servcorp can not only solve these issues, but help you succeed and grow your business.

How to Change a Registered Business Address?

You can change your registered business address with ease. Simply, log onto the Web Filing Service at Companies House and follow the prompts to change your current address to your latest version. If you prefer, you can also change your business address via post, using the FORM AD01 form, which can be downloaded from Companies House. It’s important that you provide all information required by Companies House on the AD01 form, including a signature to authorise the changes to be made. You do not need to pay to file this form.

It’s important to also note that it takes longer to process paper forms sent via post, than when making these changes online, and you must also tell Companies House of these changes within 14 days of them taking place or risk a small fine. Furthermore, Companies House will only approve the new address if the new address is in the United Kingdom and is not a PO Box address.
